There are many benefits to buying secondhand books, opposed to brand new, especially in the eco-conscious environment we are currently living in. Online second-hand bookstore ThriftBooks list just a few of the benefits of buying second hand. Not only is it better for the environment as it reduces wastage, but you are simultaneously saving money as used books are much cheaper than new ones, while supporting local businesses.
BBC News reported on the increase in the second-hand book trade online in 2018, which has only grown stronger amidst the COVID pandemic. But it is important not to forget about the local shops that may have been doing it extra tough.
